My children and I have been away from Walnut Cottage for over 5 months now. I'm ready to go home.
I'm working a respectable job, but it has no benefits.
I miss my home.
All I ever wanted was to figure out a way to support my children, spend time with them and not have to participate in the rat race. For years this is what I've wanted, but I'm beginning to despair of it ever happening.
Above all I want to go home.
This is not my home.
And now the kids' dad is heading off to some foreign country to become a mercenary which means I've got to figure out now how I'm going to make enough money to continue to work. Without his contribution from child support I won't be able to make the ends meet when it comes to daycare for the baby and after school care for my son.
I really just want to go home.
I'm tired of living in a basement and out of boxes.
I never should have come here.
I just want to be free to be me.

Lamp Spells 101
While it's not too clear exactly how or when lamp spells entered the practice of southern folks magic, we
do know that stories of the supernatural powers of oil lamps have been a part of human experience for many thousands of years. Certainly most folks have heard of the story of Aladdin and his magic genie inhabited lamp. Then there is, of course, the story of Hanukkah where oil for the lamp lasted for 8 days despite there only being a one day supply. So, while the oil lamp may not have such an exalted position in the practice of southern folk magic as say, the mojo bag or even the honey jar, with such a rich and varied tradition of lamp use through history, it is certainly one that deserves your consideration.Should you decide you wish to try out lamp spells in your practice there are a few things you need to be clear about before you begin.
First, while similar to candle spells, they are not the same. Candle spells tend to produce fast and dramatic results while lamp spells tend to produce results in a slower more subtle fashion.
Second, if you decide that you are okay with slower, subtle results, you will need to begin gathering your materials. The first things you will need are a basic oil lamp and lamp oil. These can be purchased through Amazon or at your local Walmart or sometimes a farm or rural living store. Make sure that you purchase a pure, good quality, smokeless and odorless lamp oil.
When purchasing your basic supplies you might also opt to purchase lamp oil dye in order to color the oil to match your purpose. Again, make sure that you purchase a good quality, safe dye that is specifically for dying lamp oil. (I learned from experience how very important it is to buy dye specifically for oil lamps when some lamp oil that was dyed with something not intended for lamp oil, spilled on my ex ;husband's rear and gave him a nasty chemical burn!)
Now that you've gathered your basic supplies, it's time to prepare your oil lamp for your purpose.
First, you will want to clean your lamp so that it is prepared for your intention. You can use collected rainwater, spring water or my personal favorite Florida Water to get this job done.
Next, you will need to pour your oil into your oil lamp, along with any dye that you might want.
Now you can add any dried roots, herbs, rocks or stones that correspond to your intention.
You may also add a few drops of spiritual oils for your intention. We sell these in Our Webstore. All of our spiritual oils are made with all natural carriers and essential oils so they are perfectly safe to use in oil lamps.
Next, you can add your own very personal touches to give your spell some oomph. Some of these things might include a clay figure modeled to represent your specific purpose or a name paper with your written intentions and name crossed.
Finally, once you have added all your desired items it is time to close up your lamp. Upon closing the lamp up you will need to wait a few minutes for the wick to soak up the oil otherwise the wick will not light.
Now that your lamp is going you will want to keep it burning for as long as it takes for your intention to come to fruition. This is accomplished by first keeping the wick low in the lamp so that it's only using minimal amount of oil and second, by very carefully unscrewing the lamp from the base while it's still burning to refill it when it runs low. This takes some skill and a careful hand. Should you decide to do this please be careful and observe proper fire safety precautions.
Now that your lamp is up and running and you are carefully maintaining it the only thing left to do is wait. As I said, lamp spells take some time and patience, but can pay off handsomely if done right.
I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial. Please leave me a comment with any questions or ideas you may have.
Tomorrow I will post my personal job getting spell for you to use so make sure you come back!

I Have To Get Out...
Dear Friends,
Really now!
What kind of mother coaches her child to lie?
Apparently, that would be me....
Sigh...
I really have to get out of this house. Coaching my child to lie to keep us all safe is simply not acceptable. I thought that leaving my husband would be a move for the better, but it seems the alternative of my current situation was a million times worse. It's all very surreal. How did I get to this place? This is the kind of thing that happens to other people. Not to me.
I am working so hard to find a source of income so I can get my babies and I out of this place, but there are no jobs here and building my businesses is slow tedious work that requires an expenditure of capital that I currently don't have.
I promise I will not always post such dreary things, but right now I'm living in the moment and functioning outside of it isn't very possible. I dream of posting helpful tutorials and thoughtful posts some day. Instead it's mostly the blues. Then again, I suppose a lot blues music was inspired by southern folk magic, so I suppose it's somewhat fitting.
That's all for today. Say a prayer for my babies and I if you want. Or light a candle. Or imagine us with a circle of protective blue light. Whatever is your bent.
I'm off to pack some things up to take to storage so I can keep as much out of this house as possible in case I find myself put out on the street or in the position to have to leave in a hurry. Both are entirely possible.
Love,
Alcina

On To Plan B...
Dear Friends,
It was a long weekend of moving things out of Walnut Cottage and into storage, but that phase is now over. It's crushing to see our once vibrant home now sad and empty.
I've pretty much given up hope of trying to save her and I am now in a place where I am trying to figure out how to ensure that my babies and I never again find ourselves in the position to have to leave all we know and love and have our lives and belongings displaced.
My son and I lived in a camper in the oilfield for awhile while my now ex husband was working there. I'm very seriously considering saving up all I can and buying a truck and a camper once Walnut Cottage sells and once again hitting the road. If I can build up my freelance business along with selling enough products from WCM perhaps I can make it work. That way we will have a place to call home no matter where the fates take us.
I'm feeling lost right now, but I know in the long run things will work out somehow. I just haven't figured out how that is going to manifest just yet. I do know that I do not want to work in corporate America again and that I really want to be able to support my babies and I on my own with my own work. Where there's a will, there's a way, eh?
In other news I completed my first Pendulum Reading for Fiverr with a 5 star review! Hooray! I was so worried about whether the technology would work out, but it did and I couldn't be happier! I've also put up a few additional Fiverr gigs and I am planning to put up even more soon. Please check them out if you will and buy if you're interested!
Anyhow, the wee-est of babes stayed up late last night and now I'm exhausted. I'm going to go take a nap so I can finish the rest of my day without dragging me feet!
Sincerely,
Alcina

Hard Times....
Dear Friends,
It's been a long time since I last posted. I fear things have not improved. Nay, only worsened.
We have been displaced from our lovely Walnut Cottage and it is to be sold as soon as possible. We go this evening to remove what is left to be put into storage. My heart is breaking. I keep looking for a loophole that will prevent Walnut Cottage from being sold, but one has yet to materialize so I am pushed to press forward and figure out just how in the world my babies and I can escape our present, less than ideal, situation and move on.
I am currently without a job and things are very tight, but I am trying to scratch together what I can to take care of my babies. I recently started a webstore for WCM which can be found at www.walnutcottagemistic.weebly.com. I hope to save enough to get a real domain name soon, but for now it will suffice. I also still have an etsy store at www.walnutcottagemistic.etsy.com and have been trying to sell on Instagram as well, @walnutcottagemistic.
I am hoping to start doing some live playing card, pendulum & Spiral Tarot readings soon, but it's hard with babies who still want to wake up in the night. For now I am doing video pendulum readings through the site Fiverr and will be adding additional services to my Fiverr portfolio as soon as I can.
I hope to update this blog more frequently with wonderful recipes and information and grand news about how things are falling into place for my babies and I so please stay with us. I was not always this full of woe and I will not be this way in the future. It can only go up from here.
With Love,
Alcina Fabula

Spring is in the air....
Spring is in the air. My babies are rolling about in the grass and mud. And lovely herbs are sprouting up everywhere.
It's a magical time of year at our magic Kentucky cottage. Lots of new life and beautiful green spaces, but lots of dark to go with it.
Money is tight and getting tighter every day. My babies' father is away off in the wilds of North Dakota with no hope for coming home. I will soon be posting or etsy store and some other things that will be up for sale so that we can make ends meet and stay in our cottage. If you see something you like please buy it! Anything helps.
I will also be posting some neat little spells and fixes that I'm currently using to help out around the neighborhood so do stay tuned.
I've saved this little blog for a long time, but I think now is the time to work on it.
